Growing Medical Cannabis in Spain – Medicinal Cannabis for Health
Hey there. My name is Paz, a nickname that has been with me since my younger days. While it may coincide with the Spanish word for ‘peace,’ it was never intended to be cheesy so let’s focus on what is more important—what I bring to the table now. haha
The Medical Cannabis Spain Website
I started the website over a decade ago with the intent of providing unhyped serious information and thoughts and will never take my eye off the ball there. One article, one day, for one person, might make a positive difference. That’s enough for me and why I continue to write. Whether you’re searching for a hemp project strain guide, innovative cannabis product knowledge, or expert cultivation advice, I’m here to provide you with my thoughts.
Naturally, over time, the website has also become something of a business card where people find me for my cannabis consulting services.
It all started ‘seriously’ for me back in the 90s ( altho I had been involved with growing cannabis recreationally before that and was travelling regularly between UK and Holland where the best in the game were my mentors) when a close friend of mine was tragically diagnosed with MS.
The conventional treatments weren’t helping much, so we turned to ‘medical’ cannabis to alleviate the symptoms. We set up a new clinical grow room for her, experimented with different medical strains, and were blown away by some of the results. Seeing my friends smile after so much pain was a life-changing experience for us in different ways…
I started writing about our journey back then (hey I was big on Myspace!) and I met people who were interested in growing cannabis specifically for its medicinal properties. This led to me being offered to leave the UK permanently where I was continually bumping into legal issues and travel to the US, where I saw some of the “legal” dispensaries up close. (another long story) But it wasn’t until I came to Spain at the turn of the century that I felt truly at peace to pursue my love of growing cannabis in peace.
The Cannabis ‘Growing Network’
Over the past couple of decades, I’ve helped people open private cannabis social clubs and associations, and I’ve seen first-hand the ups and downs of the industry.
I’m convinced that Spain’s original non-profit association model, which supports job creation and provides affordable medication to the sick, is the way forward, for a lot of industries in truth (but bar the obvious cannabis element we will try and keep politics off the agenda. 🙂 But clearly, the cannabis scene as a whole is constantly evolving.
I have appeared in articles in respected publications such as medical marijuana. com and Vice magazine and had over a million youtube views when I had the time to create them.
Cannabis is Organic Food?
That’s really how I see cannabis in a way, cannabinoids are essentially little different to vitamins and our body has an endocannabinoid system, meaning it spent thousands of years developing that part of our immune system and ‘we are supposed’ to have cannabinoids in our diet.
That’s just science common sense folks.
Hemp Farming
I’ve also been farming hemp for years. After researching its benefits, we started experimenting with hemp-derived CBD products in our non-profit association at the time, all the way back in 2012 and got negative press because were using hemp extracts in certain products.. “selling hemp oil which is poor man’s weed!!”
haha, Look how CBD has taken over the world now. I do now work with hemp farms worldwide on project planning, Granjacia Farms were the first company in Europe to have legal products on shelves in 2017. I still own the company and have a trust rating of about 4.6 on Trust Pilot for our retail products.
#Even there though we ran into problems and Spain stopped us from processing the hemp here in Spain a couple of years ago 2020 – and we had to change that particular business strategy all over again.
Less Farming, More Teaching
Nowadays, slowing down (just a tad) physically I focus more on consultation, conversing with a wide range of entities, from assisting new growers in Spain looking to be more self-sufficient and avoid a black market, to fully licensed cannabis companies with medical cannabis operations everywhere from Costa Rica to Zimbabwe. My nature means I provide the same care and attention to everybody so don’t be intimidated.
“And the animals went in two by two, hoorah”
Aside from my work with hemp and cannabis, I’m a real amateur farmer with a menagerie of pets, including donkeys, goats, dogs, cats, pigs, ducks, geese, chickens, peacocks, and even fish, both salted and unsalted. 🙂
It’s chaotic, but I love it. As I wind down I’m seriously considering starting an eco-tourism project and incorporating the animals as part of a petting zoo. I say farmer, but certainly in the sense of a petting farm/zoo, as opposed to eating any of them 🙂
