Organic Cannabis Extracts – Q n A
We hope that the answers to many of your commonly asked questions can be found here.
Why do you extract from the cannabis flowers rather than trim?
The main flowers contain the cannabinoids in a high percentage and have the fullest possible spectrum which in our own opinion creates the best possible medicine.
The trim is much lower in the percentage of cannabinoids and much higher in plant waxes and fats that may or may not be undesirable.
Why don’t you use legal hemp?
We do actually provide hemp cbd products. CBD is a great anti anxiety tool and general well being supplement. A lot of medicines nowadays use Industrial hemp it was really bred for fibre or food (seeds) and generally is very low in thc, the psychoactive property. Many people do prefer and respond very well to the non psychoactive properties that these products provide, in particular the CBD. A lot of industrial hemp is imported from places where farming practices are not held to the same standards as in the US or the UK perhaps. Even in the US and UK it is common practice to use pesticides and Monsanto type products to produce the highest yields. Our organic CBD oils are organically produced on hemp farms not far away from us in Andalucia, Spain.
Why do you use organic ethanol?
Altho we are not against certain extraction methods that are run under laboratory standard controlled environments such as BHO we have to weigh up all the positives and negatives of each method whilst always selecting in favour of health.
In our case, our first choice is an ethanol extraction process that enables us to get the full spectrum of desirable extractions which keeps the symbiotic effects intact. It allows us lot of flexibility and above all it is accepted as safe.
Each extraction method has its advantages and I don’t want to say one is necessarily “bad”..
What kind of strains do your medicines come from?
We strive to make our medicines as predictable and consistent as possible. We also go a step further and make them available in different strain types so we can customise your extracts. Our medicines come from a variety of strains including pure sativa, pure indica, hybrids and high cbd strains of 1:1 ratio of cbd to thc or more. We also work closely with ACT Malaga who specialise in extraction techniques and breeding of selective cannabis strains.
Did you make your own extraction equipment?
No we use medical grade components, only quality clean paper, glass and stainless steel come into contact with the material throughout the processing. We don’t use any plastics to avoid any contamination. The quality starts with using only organically grown plants and a very careful curing process in a climate controlled room.
What is a tincture and why would somebody want to ingest cannabis this way?
A tincture is basically a form of cannabis extract that is typically mixed with alcohol or glycerin. It can be taken sublingually (under the tongue) or put into any food or drinks. The tinctures are typically less concentrated than undiluted extracted oils and are used for less severe remedies or maintenance doses. Sublingual is an excellent form of delivery.
You don’t use alcohol in your tinctures?
Because this is medicine, we’re trying to be smart about every step in our process, including what delivery method the medicine comes in. Alcohol burns and many people with diseases or allergies cannot tolerate anything with alcohol in their stomach. Additionally, alcohol can evaporate which changes the dilution effect of what you are getting, so it makes it more difficult to dose properly.
Glycerin isn’t optimal either, it doesn’t absorb right into your skin or membranes. It also has a limited amount of saturation to it in terms of how many cannabinoids it can hold, so it is not a good natural solvent. So you’ll find glycerin tinctures tend to separate and you need to constantly shake them or put them in a water bath to attempt to get a consistent dose.
We use MCT oils. MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides and is a form of coconut oil where the long chain fatty acids have been removed, leaving it in a stable liquid form. What is so terrific about using this oil in tinctures is that MCT oil is very easily absorbed by the body and easy to digest so works quickly. It produces a very consistent product because it evenly absorbs the cannabis compounds, so every dropper will have a consistent dose and coconut oil itself has health benefits
What products are you offering for pets?
I am personally extremely excited about our pet line of treatments. This is where out quality trim that other use for patients goes. Being able to see how cannabis can also help pets has been so rewarding. We’re currently offering CBD dog treats as well as CBD pet tinctures for both dogs and cats. The dog treats use our 20:1 extract so they are not psychoactive and are not toxic. The treats are being used for suppressing seizures and can also help with anxiety and mild pain. Our pet tinctures can come in different ratios and are being used for treating severe pain, stimulating their appetite, used topically for skin cancers and also aggressively fighting cancers and tumors.
